Two proven paths to a well-trained dog. Here's how they actually differ — and how to pick the one that fits your dog, your schedule, and your goals.
Almost every dog owner who calls us is deciding between the same two options: send the dog to a Board & Train program, or take owner lessons and train alongside the dog. Both work. The right choice comes down to your schedule, your dog's needs, and how much of the hands-on work you want to do yourself.
| Board & Train | Owner Lessons | |
|---|---|---|
| Who does the reps | We do, daily, then hand off to you | You do, coached by us |
| Timeline | 2–8 weeks live-in | 4–12 sessions over weeks |
| Speed of results | Fastest | Gradual, steady |
| Owner time required | Low during, then maintenance | Consistent throughout |
| Starting price | $1,500 | $500 |
Your dog lives and trains with us 5–6 days a week in a structured environment, away from whatever's been reinforcing the problem behavior at home. You get video updates throughout, and every program ends with hands-on owner training so you can maintain the results. It's the fastest path, and it's ideal when your schedule is full, the behavior is deeply ingrained, or you want a strong foundation built quickly.
You and your dog train together from day one. It takes more of your time and consistency, but you finish as a genuinely capable handler — you've done the reps, you can read your dog, and you can troubleshoot on your own. It's a great fit when you have time to practice and want to build the relationship hands-on.
There's no universally "better" option — only the better fit. If you're time-strapped or facing a stubborn, established behavior, Board & Train usually wins. If you have time to practice and want to build the skills yourself, lessons are excellent value. Either way, the dog needs an owner who maintains the standard afterward; no program replaces day-to-day consistency at home.
