1. Visible scatter search
Place several pieces of the dog's normal food across a clean, safe floor or grass area. Release the dog to search and let the nose lead.

Loosely fold food inside a towel for a dog that will search rather than shred and swallow fabric. Supervise and stop if chewing replaces searching.
3. Box search
Use several clean cardboard boxes, with food in one or more. Keep flaps safe, remove staples and tape, and prevent ingestion.
4. Meal treasure hunt
Divide part of a meal among counted containers and place them in safe locations. Start visible, then add cover or distance. Use a different setup for dogs likely to eat containers.
5. Simple trail
Drag a food-safe target or place spaced food drops along a short path to a larger reward. Keep the first trail easy and avoid hazardous outdoor surfaces or heat.
